Neuralink is a biotechnology company founded by Elon Musk and a few others. The company’s headquarters is currently in San Francisco, California. The company was founded in 2016 and is currently first publicly disclosed in May 2017. In this article we are going to take a quick look at what the company does and what it plans to offer to the medical community.
Musk is the CEO of the company, along with Robert Ghaffarian, a former NASA science officer, and J. Norbert Curnoles, a Stanford University Electrical Engineering professor. They have received funding from both the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) and the Army Corp of Engineers. They plan to use the neuralink technology to help restore the function of the human brain to an extraordinary degree.
What is this amazing new technology? According to their website, it is “an advance in information technology that uses engineered molecules that can be inserted into the body via a procedure called intrathecal delivery”. This is just one of many applications for this cutting-edge technology. According to their website, it will help to deliver the nervous system from the body back to its natural state. This will allow the body to receive the neuralink signal it needs in a natural state and not needing to process it through the digestive system, or being burned up in the digestive system.
How does this work? The technology is actually called Neuro Robots. These are small computer systems, similar to computer chips, that contain actual neurons. These neurons are programmed to perform certain tasks when they are stimulated, such as responding to light, sound, or heat. Once the neuron is stimulated the corresponding action is performed by the computer chip.
Researchers are able to implant these tiny little computer chips in a person’s brain through an operation called intrathecal delivery. Neurons in the brain are neurons, not synapses. Synapses are actually junctions between neurons where they pass electrical signals. When these junctions are damaged due to disease or stroke, it can interfere with a person’s ability to process information. The problem is that when these neurons are damaged it can also make it hard for the brain to receive the needed signals. This is where neurolinks come in.
The new neuralink probes are tiny and flexible enough that they can be injected into a person’s body through almost any means. One method used is called “intracranial magnetotherapy.” This is where an infra-magnetic probe is placed in a person’s head and the probe is linked to an implanted iron probe. Once the two are stimulated, the brain receives the appropriate electric signals and the appropriate action is carried out.
Another way to implant a neuralink probe into a human’s skull is through the use of a non- invasive technique called optogenetics. Here, a tiny device is attached to the surface of the brain through the use of a thin probe called an optoelectronic probe. Once this device emits light waves that are picked up by the nerve cells, the brain receives the appropriate signals.
In order to receive the benefit of these health benefits, it is important to understand how these work. When an individual has a major stroke, the surgeon can implant an artificial intelligence device onto their brain so that it can communicate with their mind and body. With this device, the patient can learn how to perform exercises, control their emotions, and take care of other things that they would otherwise be unable to do. They will also be able to live a long and happy life because their minds will be able to process more information and do other things that would have been nearly impossible without the neuralink. As you can see, there is a lot of value in exploring how we can use science to enhance human existence.
