What will the Earth be like in 500 years?
That’s the question asked by many young-earth creationists. They believe the Earth has had many years to figure out its system and how it works. Some younger-earth creationists (Y.E.C’s) believe the Earth has had only a few thousand years to figure out its system and is in big trouble today. Here’s how the debate goes:
Those are the basics of the argument. There’s more to it than that. In fact, we haven’t even gotten to the best or most important question – will the Earth be “blue” in the next million years? Or will it be “green?” It will either be “red” or “yellow” depending on which happens to be more closely associated with which color you think the Earth is.
The “evolution versus creation” argument is one of the more compelling points made against those who believe that the Earth is only a few thousand years old. According to evolutionists, all life on the earth began with forms of life which were produced through a process of natural selection by random chance. It doesn’t take a very sophisticated scientific model to see how this can get very complicated very quickly. So, how can anyone predict what the Earth’s temperature will be in the next half-century or so, much less in the next five or ten years? It’s impossible.
But another question is – where do scientists get their information about global warming from? One answer comes from Dr. James E. Hansen, who is the former NASA administrator. In his book” Galileo’s Fire”, he discussed the greenhouse effect and explained how certain gases trap heat and alter the earth’s temperature. Two main kinds of changes he noted take place during the greenhouse phase – the absorption of heat from the Sun and the absorption of heat by water vapor in the atmosphere. There are many feedback cycles within these two processes which cause the earth to warm up or cool down. If we want to know what will be the Earth’s temperature in the future, we need to determine the balance of these two important feedback cycles.
Another question we might ask before trying to answer this question is – what will the Earth be like in 500 years if all the greenhouse gases continue to be released? This is an excellent point and one that scientist agree upon. One of the major feedback’s involved in the Earth’s climate cycle is the release of heat and this will continue until such time as the Earth itself is so over stressed that it simply collapses in on itself. So, as we can see, we have a timeline involved here but the question is how long will this timeline take to happen? Well, some answers to this question might surprise you.
Some scientists believe that sometime within this century we could see some major challenge on our environment. What will the Earth be like in 500 years? Well, according to some top minds, it will be a lot worse than what it is right now, if not dramatically worse. It might even affect human populations.
So, what will the Earth be like in 500 years if all the greenhouse gasses continue to be released? Well, some top scientists believe that the temperature of the Earth may go up to 5 degrees higher than what it is currently. Another problem that will come about is the change in the atmospheric pressure, which will cause areas of low pressure to develop, and areas of high pressure to develop. The poles will become colder and areas of high pressure will develop, and this will cause a change in ocean currents and perhaps cause the polar ice caps to melt.
As you can see, this is no laughing matter, and perhaps much-needed attention is required to stop it. How can we stop it? There are two primary methods, those are technological and abroad. Scientists agree that greenhouse gases are a danger. So, perhaps looking for energy alternatives is the only way to ensure that we can survive in this world without degrading our health and destroying our future. Of course, with all the problems that the world is facing right now with drought, poverty, world conflict, and other issues, it seems like seeking alternatives is not such a bad idea.
Fortunately, there are energy-based concepts that are out there hoping to assist with such troubles. However, to implement this is another story.
Think on this.
